Uji, Kyoto, is renowned as the home of Japan’s finest gyokuro. Among its regions, Ujitawara—with its dramatic temperature differences—produces some of the highest-quality gyokuro. This tea is made from two distinguished Uji cultivars, Gokō and Ujimidori, offering the rich, authentic taste of Uji gyokuro.
Gyokuro is a premium Japanese green tea grown under shade for more than 20 days before harvesting. This shading process concentrates the natural umami in the leaves, resulting in a tea with a rich flavor and the distinctive ooika (covered aroma), often described as reminiscent of seaweed.
Our tea garden “Cha no Ki” is located in Ujitawara, the birthplace of Japanese green tea. Since 1990, we have been dedicated to organic cultivation, using only organic fertilizers and natural grass mulch for over 30 years to create healthy soil and tea leaves that can be enjoyed with peace of mind.
